“Always My Gran!”

It’s a bit of scrapping time for me over the weekend, in between my split shifts for work. 🙂  As it is the Scrapbook Savvy May CC, I thought I would join in and first up I did Sarah’s colour challenge to use pink, orange, turquoise and green.  I don’t always have a lot of girly photos to scrap, but I found this one of Mum and Cody in 1992 when he was about 6mnths old and yes he is small being 8 weeks premature.

This is my first layout of my 8.5x 11 size layout journey!

004-002I thought I would use some goodies from my monthly kit from Scrapbook Savvy. Sarah has beautiful kits and at a great price  🙂

I used a Distress paint dauber to swipe some paint on the background text paper and I put colour on the edges of paper and cs with a dauber also.  I stamped a few extra flowers and things to add a bit of layering with some Black Soot Distress ink and then added the embellishments from the kit 🙂  I used part of the background for my title and Thickers to add to it!

007-001                                  This is a close up of my layering!

This came together a lot quicker and I didn’t have to worry about all the space of a 12×12 page.

“Size Doesn’t Matter!!”

That is exactly what I think in reference to the size of scrap booking pages you create!! hehehe!!

I have decided with much procrastination, that I want to scrap 8.5×11 now and not 12×12. It has been a bit of a dilemma and I have been giving this a lot of thought. I have always enjoyed the smaller size and decided I want to do more of this size layout.  I think the only reason I stopped scrapping this size is there didn’t seem to be not a lot of other scrapers that use this size and I think I felt weird not doing 12×12.   I found by searching the web there are more of these scrapers than I realised and they are doing their own thing….  So, not any more, I am scrapping for me and hang the trends, I am over it!!!!

There is mainly two reasons for me scrapping this way now and they are:

1.  I haven’t as much time as I used to working split shifts and I get very tired. A 12×12 layout is daunting at times for me. There is still plenty of room for me to play and with my Selphy printer I can use smaller photos and still tell my story!

2. It has its benefits too that I am not having to fill in a lot of space and it is more budget friendly which has to be a good thing also. I have a good stash of supplies and I don’t need to purchase anything else except a few albums and yes, they are cheaper too 🙂

albumsYou can see the difference in the size of the albums and less storage space is needed and they are easier to handle than the big ones!

Now I have my Ebosser out of its box, and set up I will be able to use it a lot too in my scrapping. I have gone through my scrap supplies over the last two days and had a good think about what I want to keep and toss! I have my space set up the way I want it to make me more productive and I am going to enjoy my scrapping again!

001-001I am currently going through my 12×12 card stock and pp and cutting them down to 8.5×11. The left overs are going to be great to use in my die cutting machine and to punch borders from 🙂

003-005The storage of my card stock and pp will be easier too, as I am using some vertical magazine holders and they take up less space. I scrap by colour so this is how I am sorting it and it is good to take stock of supplies you have! I don’t think I will be buying much for a while 🙂 I want to make a good dent in this stash of mine!!

I know this wouldn’t work for everyone and I am not saying scrap this size,  as a lot of you like the square format and that is fine 🙂 If your budget is stopping you from preserving your memories than this might be the way to.

Here are a few  blogs I found that have a lot of 8.5×11 size layouts and sketches! You can even use card sketches for inspiration as these are the shape of a 8.5×11 page!

Do what is right for you and enjoy your craft as I am going to do!

“A Cover & A Card!”

I don’t usually make many cards, but as it is Mother’s Day here on tomorrow, I thought I would use some of the bits on my desk left over from my covers and make this for mum!

002This is a standard size card and I just made a card front from some pp and added some punched butterflies and a small crocheted doily and a sentiment stamp.

002-002I also finished the cover on the book that I will be scrapping photos I have from my sister and I growing up. I used some of my Kasiercraft stash for this one 🙂 These photos are not of a particular event so there are only one or two of them and I thought this was the easiest way to tell the stories instead of larger layouts. Now all the covers are finished I can add the pages, bind them and start scrapping 🙂

“Altered Covers!”

Over the past few days, in between work and life, I have managed to alter two of my book covers I showed you earlier.  I didn’t want them too embellished as I will be using them a lot and it might damage them.

003-003 This one I covered with some pattern paper using Mod Podge so it was sealed as well. I added a couple of cut out butterflies and a bit of washi with the title.

003-004This one is basically the same with a couple of embellies and a few layers. I need to measure the inside to cut the pages out and work out where I am going to put the holes to secure them.  I will be using some of the old pages I tore out in them as well. They were fun to do and I have one more to cover and then I can start filling them up with our stories 🙂

“A Girls Perogative!”

They say It’s a girls prerogative to change her mind right!! Well, sometimes I think I use it to the limit!  I have been pondering the way I am making my ‘happy stuff’ book and how I am scrap booking in general!! Yep, as usual over thinking things!!!

I am not sure if it is my creativeness wanting to come out, or I need to do something different from just scrap 12 x 12 album pages for my family!  Don’t get me wrong they are fantastic but storing them is my main problem, and I have quite a few as it is!

Making this altered book has had me thinking and I have decided not to scrap 12×12 anymore and to make my own SCRAP books and do them how I want to. It probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I need to do what is right for me. If it gets photos scraped and helps with my lack of mojo than so be it 🙂

On my book shelf I had three books that are approximately 8 x 10.5 inches and these are perfect for what I want to do with them. I have not used them in months and they are just sitting there collecting dust. I hope you book lovers aren’t too horrified with me. I am not destroying them, I am actually giving them new life 🙂  I will be able to scrap lots of photos in them thus re-using them and cutting down on albums. Also I will be using some of the pages I have taken out and using my paper stash, so that is a great bonus. Well, that is my plan and I am sticking to it 🙂

This gives you an idea of how I am making my scrap books 🙂 The lady here uses binder mechanisms but I am thinking book rings or ribbons etc? There are also other ways to bind them.

This December Daily album uses rings to show you what I mean!

I want to be able to add to it as I go and not be limited by sticking the pages  in permanently. Today I dismantled the pages from the covers and put gesso over them to seal them as they were shiny.

002-001Below is the book with the pages taken out carefully away from the spine so it is still intact.

004-001           I will most likely cover these with pp also so they look finished!

You are probably thinking, why didn’t I just buy some pre-made albums? Well that is not me being creative, or using what I already have, which is what I am trying to do this year 🙂 Plus these are the right size for me and will be great to store 🙂

I am looking forward now to getting them finished and start to create in them.  I have so much scrap stash and photos to use I don’t think it will be too hard 🙂  There are lots of ideas, tips and techniques out there to do this and I hope I may have inspired you to look at your scrap booking differently! I would love to see any altered books or projects you are doing! Please let me know and I will hop on over to your blogs and have a peek 🙂

Happy Scraping xx

“Page #2” – Chopp’n & Weed’n!

I am on a roll today, and managed some time to complete page #2 in my ‘happy book’

Playing in the dirt and in my roses is something I love to do, so of course had to be in my book 🙂

003-002

For this page I use a green and yellow Dylusions ink and misted the page. I punched a chevron , mated the photo and used a border punch, added a journaling tag and a banner made from some washi, also a bit of gesso as I was going to journal straight onto the page but changed my mind! The title on the photo I did using an app on my camera and printed on my Selphy. You can still see a bit of the book page coming through but not too much.

This is so much fun and I am just doing what I feel like doing 🙂 As the pages are smaller they are coming together fast! I hope to work on some more over the weekend and start on my next one about my childhood with my sister 🙂

“Page #1” – Perfection!

Today after work, I decided I want to have a play with my book I am altering. I had a photo of Trishka our kitty on my desk and thought she would be the first thing documented in my ‘HAPPY’ book!

I gessoed a double page and spray it with some pink Dylusions ink.  I added a bit of pattern paper, cut a film strip, added some washi tape, punched a couple of flowers and done!! Most importantly  I journaled in my own hand writing!

003-001I really enjoyed the freedom creating this page and I am going to be printing some more photos tmorrow of things that make me happy and adding them to my book 🙂

I have been on Pinterest getting some more inspiration to add to my book and using bits from my stash. I am thinking about the title of my book also? Lots of ideas going on and so probably wont sleep tonite.
